US Embassy criticizes Assembly’s decision to dismiss RTK board

The US Embassy to Pristina has reacted after the Assembly dismissed Thursday board members of the Radio Television of Kosovo – RTK.

“Yesterday, the Assembly dismissed members of another public oversight board with scant justification. While Kosovans deserve accountability, dismissals should be based on transparent evidence just as appointments should be based on merit. Rushed unilateral dismissals harm public institutions and do not address structural problems. Effective long-term reforms require a deliberate, methodical approach putting Kosovo’s interests first and party politics aside,” the US Embassy said in a statement posted on Facebook.

MPs voted Thursday dismissal of all board members of the public broadcaster. Names of the dismissed board are: Sali Bashota, Agron Gashi, Lirim Geci, Fadil Miftari, Ilir Bytyçi, Bajram Mjeku, Petrit Musolli and Albinot Maloku. The ruling party of Vetevendosje has supported the recommendation on dismissing the board, whereas opposition parties – PDK, LDk and AAK were against, saying the decision is politically motivated and an attempt to capture the state. /GazetaExpress/
