KFOR has strongly condemned the attacks against members of the Kosovo Police in northern part of the country and expressed readiness to support the Kosovo Police if requested. A KFOR official told Gazeta Express that they expect all sides to act responsibly and refrain from actions that could unnecessarily escalate tensions.

“The NATO-led KFOR mission strongly condemns the latest attacks against members of the Kosovo Police. We confirm our readiness to support the Kosovo Police, if needed and requested,” a KFOR official said. He also said that KFOR expects all sides to act responsibly and constructively, and refrain from actions that could unnecessarily escalate tensions, negatively affect security in Kosovo and stability across the region. “KFOR remains fully focused on the daily implementation of its UN mandate, to ensure a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for the benefit of all communities living in Kosovo,” a KFOR official told Gazeta Express.

Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, during a press conference said that two police patrols came under Kalashnikov fire and a hand grenade was thrown while the officers were carrying out regular shifts at the border with Serbia. Whereas the Kosovo Police General Director Samedin Mehmeti said that since 13 April they have registered four “organized and synchronized” attacks against the Kosovo Police in that area. He said that the organized attacks are aimed at obstructing the police work and preventing them to fight smuggling activities. /GazetaExpress/
