EU strongly condemns attack on Kosovo Police in the north

The European Union Office in Kosovo has strongly condemned what they referred as “violent attack on the Kosovo Police patrol in the municipality of Zubin Potok” on 15 April. Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Svecla said two police patrols came under fire and a hand grenade was thrown while the officers were carrying out regular shifts at the border with Serbia.

The EU Office in Kosovo in a statement to media said that the Kosovo Police is the main security provider and use of force against its officers is unacceptable. The EU Office called on all parties to refrain from unnecessary speculation that could incite further tensions.

Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Svecla accompanied by General Director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin  Mehmeti, held Friday morning a press conference announcing that the Kosovo Police came under fire. According to Svecla this was the fourth attack on the police over the last three days around the same area. General Director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin Mehmeti, said that it is suspected that in one of the attacks against the police the bullets came from the territory of Serbia. No injuries have been reported, but only material damages. /GazetaExpress/
