Kosovo to receive additional 62,400 doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine

Kosovo is expected to receive additional 62,400 doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine from the COVAX program, Gazeta Express reports.

Although the supply has not been shipped to Kosovo, the UNICEF has announced that more than 62 thousand doses of vaccines destined for Kosovo are ready. This is the second batch of vaccines that COVAX program will provide for Kosovo.  

Kosovo’s Ministry of Health has not provided any additional information on the new supply with COVID-19 vaccines, however the new batch is expected to arrive in the country during this week.

With over 62 thousand vaccines Kosovo health authorities will continue immunization of the people included in the first phase of vaccination, who have not managed to receive the vaccine so far, due to shortage of supply.  

In the second phase, according to the Immunization Plan, approved by the Ministry of Health, are included around 17 percent of the population, namely age groups 65-79, individuals with chronical diseases, teachers and the security forces involved in managing of COVID-19 pandemic.

Kosovo so far has received 24 thousand doses of Astra Zeneca vaccines from COVAX and 4,680 doses of Pfizer from the European Union.

Kosovo lags other countries of the region when it comes to providing COVID-19 vaccines. /GazetaExpress/
