Kosovo and Serbia continued Thursday negotiations in Brussels as part of efforts to find a permanent solution on use of vehicle plates as a six-month deadline for reaching a deal is approaching, Gazeta Express reports.

The Working Group consisted of of experts from both Kosovo and Serbia met Thursday under facilitation of the EU Special Representative for Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, and discussed modalities on the use of license plates for vehicles entering each other’s territories.

Lajcak in a statement posted on Twitter said that it is the responsibility of both parties to agree on a solution. “Experts of Kosovo and Serbia met in Brussels today for the 7th meeting of the WG on Licence Plates. With the deadline approaching, it’s urgent to reach a compromise to improve the freedom of movement in the region. It’s the responsibility of both parties to agree on a solution,” Lajcak said.

In September 2021 Kosovo and Serbia reached a deal for a temporary measure on use of vehicle plates until a permanent solution is found within a six-months deadline. According to the provisional deal, each country’s insignia in vehicle plates are covered with white stickers at the border crossings. The provisional deal reached last year ended road blockade in northern Kosovo by local Serbs protesting the decision of Kosovo Government to introduce reciprocity measures. /GazetaExpress/
