Kosovo Army to be equipped with helicopters

The Kosovo Security Force (KSF) is planning to create an air fleet and purchase helicopters, Army commander Rrahman Rama says.

In December 2018, the Parliament of Kosovo voted expanding of the KSF competences and creating a legal base for its transformation into a regular army a process which according to experts will take up to ten years until the new Kosvoo Army achieves its operational capacities. The Force’s General Commander Rrahman Rama says that in addition to armoured vehicles they are considering establishing a small air fleet and purchase some helicopters. He said the KSF has already has three pilots who are trained by armies of friendly countries and currently are engaged with the Albanian Army. In 2019 the United States Army equipped the Kosovo Security Force with 27 armoured vehicles – Humvee.

Currently, the KSF has about 2,200 staff and was formed in 2009, charged with carrying out non-military tasks that are not appropriate for the police, such as search and rescue operations, flood relief and provision of humanitarian assistance. /GazetaExpress/
