New Civil Code paves way for same-sex marriage in Kosovo

The draft Civil Code of Kosovo is expected to regulate many open issues when it comes to property and inheritance, and even paves the way for same-sex marriages in Kosovo.

This was stated by Justice Minister Selimi Selimi who during a press conference on Tuesday said that they are about to conclude drafting of the Civil Code. Selimi believes the Civil Code will be proceeded soon to the Parliament and will get MPs support. He said the Civil Code will regulate many open issues in Kosovo.

The new Code according o Selimi will help women have equal rights to inherit property. He said the Civil Code with a special law also paves the way for same-sex marriage in Kosovo. “For the first time ever, the new legal frame paves the way for civil union through marriage of the same-sex couples,” he said. The project on Civil Code has been supported by the European Union and many governments have worked on drafting it over the last few years. /GazetaExpress/
