Kosovo PM Hoti hosts a US delegation to discuss Ujman Lake

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti, hosted Monday representatives of the United States Department of Energy. He wrote on Facebook that Kosovo is taking the necessary steps towards implementation of the Washington Agreement signed at the White House on September 4.

“Together with Deputy Prime Minister Driton Selmanaj, we met a delegation from the US State Department of Energy, headed by Mr. Mathew Zais, Deputy Assistant Secretary General, the US Ambassador to Kosovo Philip Kosnett, and USAID representatives, with whom we discussed the implementation of the agreement for the normalization of economic relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia, signed on 4 September at the White House,” Hoti wrote, adding that he thanked the US delegation for the continuous assistance that the US has given to Kosovo during all state-building stages. “We discussed the economic and energy needs of Kosovo, which derive from the Washington Agreement and the implementation of projects foreseen by this agreement,” he wrote.

US Embassy in Pristina in a Tweet confirmed that the Department of Energy led interagency delegation met with PM Hoti to discuss US support for energy diversification and next steps for a resource management feasibility study on Lake Ujmani/Gazivode. The US Embassy said that today’s visit of the US delegation is another demonstration of the United States commitment to full implementation of the White House Washington Agreements and economic normalization between Kosovo and Serbia.

Lake Ujman/Gazivoda was among the items in the documents that Kosovo and Serbia signed in Washington on September 4. Lake Ujman covers an area of ​​about 12 square kilometers. Slightly more than nine are on the territory of Kosovo, while the rest are in Serbia property.
