EU asks Serbia to do its part after Kosovo lifted reciprocity

The European Union has welcomed Kosovo Government decision to lift reciprocal measures with Serbia. In an answer to Gazeta Express an EU spokesperson said Brussels expects Serbia to do its part and create conditions on resumption of talks.

Peter Stano, lead spokesperson for the European Commission’s Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, told Gazeta Express on Monday that the new Government by removing the reciprocity has demonstrated its commitment to restart of the Dialogue.

“High Representative Josep Borrell and Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak welcome the decision by the government of Kosovo to remove the recently introduced measures contrary to past Dialogue agreements. By removing the remaining obstacles to the resumption of the EU-facilitated Dialogue, the new government demonstrates its commitment to re-start the Dialogue without delay. We now expect Serbia to do the same,” Stano said.

He said the exact timing and scope of the Dialogue is up to the two parties to decide upon. “The EU stands ready to resume the Dialogue towards a comprehensive normalization of relations without delay. To prepare the grounds and discuss the modalities with the parties, Special Representative Lajcakk plans to travel to the region in the coming days,” Stano told Gazeta Express.  

Kosovo prime minister Avdullah Hoti said that Kosovo has removed all obstacles with Serbia to give dialogue a chance. Country’s President Hashim Thaci said on Monday that now Serbia has no ppretext to block the dialogue. /GazetaExpress/
