The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office has announced that it has filed indictments against eight people for war crimes in Gjakova.
The statement states that the accused, MK, VM, DR, ZD, CB, MI, SS and SK, from 24.03.1999 to 31.03. 1999, in the city of Gjakova, during a large-scale operation, acting in co-operation and in coordination with police, military and paramilitary structures, committed murder, expulsion of the civilian population, destruction and looting of their property, reports Gazeta Express.
"There is a well-founded suspicion that during this operation by Serbian police, paramilitary and military forces, 65 civilians were killed and 12 civilians disappeared," the statement said, among other things.
Indictment against eight people for war crimes in Gjakova
Pristina, May 06, 2026 – The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment against MK, VM, DR, ZD, CB, MI, SS and SK for the criminal offense of "War crimes against the civilian population".
According to the indictment, the defendants, from 24.03.1999 to 31.03.1999, in the city of Gjakova, during a large-scale operation, acting in complicity and in coordination with police, military and paramilitary structures, committed murder, expulsion of the civilian population, destruction and looting of their property.
There is a well-founded suspicion that during this operation by Serbian police, paramilitary and military forces, 65 civilians were killed and 12 civilians went missing.
The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, based on Articles 234 and 303 of the Criminal Procedure Code, has proposed to the Basic Court in Pristina to hold the trial in absentia, since the defendants are inaccessible to the justice authorities.
The Prosecution remains committed to prosecuting all war crimes cases, in accordance with the highest international standards, aiming to ensure justice for victims and strengthen the rule of law.
