The organization "Freedom has a Name" considers the postponement of the announcement of the verdict in the trial against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army at the Special Court in The Hague completely unacceptable.
This ongoing practice of unreasonable delays can no longer be seen as normal judicial procedure, but as a serious degradation of the fundamental principles of justice for a trial within a reasonable time. This process, which has been dragging on for years, with repeated postponements, has completely lost its credibility and has now become a mechanism that produces continuous injustice.
Keeping former KLA leaders in detention for almost six years violates every standard of international justice and fundamental human rights.
"Freedom Has a Name" assesses that these developments are severely damaging citizens' trust in international justice institutions, creating the perception of a protracted, unbalanced and irresponsible process.
"Freedom Has a Name" warns that any further delay in this judicial process at the Special Court will only further distance this institution from the standards of justice, turning it into a dangerous precedent for international justice.
