Albania’s Defence Ministry announced that it is sending a contingent of 30 commando troops to serve as part of the NATO-led peacekeeping mission in Kosovo – KFOR, Gazeta Express reports.
Albanian Minister of Defence, Niko Peleshi, who met the troops before deploying to Kosovo, said that following closing of the NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, Albania pledged to continue participation in NATO’s international missions. “We are materializing increase of our presence in KFOR, and for the first time we send the KFOR 1 mission consisted of a special contingent of the best men and women of our armed forces,” Peleshi said.
Peleshi said that now that global peace and security is being challenged by Russia, the responsibility is bigger to serve responsibly and with professionalism respecting NATO values. Albania joined NATO in 2009 and its troops have taken part in many peacekeeping missions around the world. /GazetaExpress/
