VALEN on the interconnection project with Albania: DUI did not build, but took money for itself

The VLEN coalition has today accused the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) of having, through dubious contracts and projects blocked for years, enabled millions of euros from citizens to end up with people and companies close to its leadership.

In a public reaction, VALEN emphasizes that instead of accounting for the over five-year blockage of the energy interconnection project with Albania, DUI is trying to divert attention through political attacks and, according to them, manipulation.

According to this subject, the termination of the contract for the project in question has caused "panic" in the DUI, since, as alleged, considerable public funds have been withdrawn through it without concrete implementation on the ground. VALEN claims that during the DUI's government, persons close to its leaders were involved as subcontractors, also mentioning direct connections to the party's main political figures.

The response states that the company engaged in the project has only completed about 4 percent of the works in more than five years, while in parallel additional funds have been requested through annexes amounting to up to 50 percent of the contract value.

VALEN also points out that the state has been paying interest on loans since 2015, without real progress on the project, referring to MEPSO's analyses of millions in losses as a result of delays.

According to them, the decision to terminate the contract was made after a detailed forensic analysis and in accordance with the procedures of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, emphasizing that every step was carried out under the supervision of this international institution and with the involvement of USAID expertise.

VLEN also disputes DUI's claims regarding the proceedings before the DAB, describing them as a pre-arbitration mechanism and not a final legal decision.

Finally, the coalition emphasizes that the new tender for the project has been awarded to a consortium led by Dalekovod dd, describing this as a step towards the realization of the project after years of stagnation.

"DUI did not build, but took money for itself. While we will build and continue to build," VLEN's response states.
