The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is working intensively to evacuate Macedonian citizens from crisis zones in the Middle East. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timco Mucunski, said that last night 14 Macedonian citizens did not show up at the airport, even though they had requested evacuation.
"Our goal is to fill all our planes to their maximum capacity. Yesterday at Dubai Airport, 14 people, who requested evacuation until the last moment, decided not to show up. Fortunately, we had a plan prepared for such a situation, we had a waiting list, and our Abu Dhabi Embassy immediately contacted a group of citizens who were willing to come. But this is an irresponsible approach, first of all because it is about the safety of citizens," stressed Mucunski.
In addition to the United Arab Emirates, a large number of Macedonian citizens are also awaiting evacuation from other countries in the region. According to MFA data:
Doha – 162 people (89 seeking to leave)
Kuwait – 36 people
Bahrain – 15 people
Saudi Arabia – 5 people
The Ministry's plan for these citizens is to organize local transportation to Riyadh, which will serve as a central collection point. From there, a direct flight to Skopje will be organized during the week.
"The dynamics are clear, by the end of the week all citizens who have requested help should be evacuated," concluded Minister Mucunski.
