Time has come for the EU to end its naivety in the Western Balkans, says former Kosovo FM Enver Hoxhaj

The European Union should be careful with Chinese and Russian role in the Western Balkan. This was stated by Enver Hoxha, Kosovo’s former chief of diplomacy, in an opinion on managing of health situation in Balkans after COVID-19 pandemic. He also said the time has come for the EU to end its naivety in the Western Balkans.  

Former foreign minister and current MP representing the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) in opposition, Enver Hoxhaj, in an opinion published recently by Conservatives Global speaks about the influence and management of health situation in the Western Balkans and fake news that China and Russia are distributing in this part of the globe.

“If the EU would like to preserve its standing in the region, it should think what it can do, together with US, to support the countries of the region in fighting disinformation campaigns,” Hoxhaj wrote. “The EU must set clear goals and a timeframe of how it wants to progress with the enlargement in the Balkans. The Zagreb summit failed to do that. In this difficult and ever-changing international environment, the Western Balkans will triumph only when Europe has a firm commitment towards the Western Balkans,” he said. According to Hoxhaj the EU can act as a global player when it is able to understand how others view the Western Balkans, and how they are not on the same page with the European Union. “The time has come for the EU to end its naivety in the Western Balkans,” Hoxhaj concluded in his opinion. /GazetaExpress/
