The Vetevendosje movement has officially launched a petition asking snap election in Kosovo after the Constitutional Court ruled on Thursday that a President’s decree on new Government is in line with the Constitution paving the way for the Vetevendosje’s former coalition partner, LDK to form new Government.

The Vetevendosje launched on Saturday a website duamzgjedhje.org (We Want Election) calling citizens to write their name, last name, ID number and address. The petition, according to the Vetevendosje will be closed on 30 June.

Lexo Edhe:

“Kosovo needs new election because a new government will get back its legitimatcy only through elections. To overcome current crisis, as a first step we are collecting signatures for the petition with the only one request: new elections. No government without elections and for stealing. No government for partition and fragmentation. But election, democracy, and prosperity instead,” the Vetevendosje said in its call to sign the petition.

The Vetevendosje-led Government was ousted in a no-confidence vote in Parliament on 25 March triggered by their former coalition partner – the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) over disagreements on handling the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and dialogue with Serbia. Kosovo President Hashim Thaci nominated Avdullah Hoti of the LDK to form new Government after as he said the Vetevendosje failed to answer his continues requests to present a new prime minister’s name. The Vetevendosje challenged Thaci’s decree with the Constitutional Court who on Thursday ruled in favour of Thaci paving the way for the LDK to form new Government. The Vetevendosje leader and caretaker prime minister, Albin Kurti, reacting to Court’s ruling said that the decision was not fair and is inadmissible. Kurti and his party are asking snap election as a solution to restore a legitimate government. /GazetaExpress/
