US Embassy in Pristina urged Kosovo politicians not to interfere the work of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) in the Hague mandated to prosecute and try alleged crimes committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army during and after the war in Kosovo.
The US Embassy in an answer to Gazeta Express said that the US position on the Hague-based Specialist Chambers remains unchanged. “We support the work and the mandate of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office and encourage all interested to allow them do their job free from interference,” the US Embassy said.
Back in 2015 the US Embassy urged Kosovo MPs to vote constitutional amendments enabling establishment of the Special Court as commonly known in Kosovo. Back than the US assessed that to move forward Kosovo should remain committed to an unbiased legal process and acceptable to international community which would give an epilogue to the Council of Europe Report adopted in 2010. In 2015 the Parliament of Kosovo approved the Law on establishment of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office. Last month the Hague-based court confirmed the first indictments against former president of Kosovo Hashim Thaci, PDK leader Kadri Veseli, Vetevendosje MP Rexhep Selimi and Nisma senior official Jakup Krasniqi. All of them are accused of committing war crimes as senior commanders of Kosovo Libneration Army (KLA) during 1998-1999 war in Kosovo. /GazetaExpress/
