The
United States delivered Monday 55 five armoured security vehicles as part of an
American donation to the Kosovo Army. President Vjosa Osmani thanked the US
President Joe Biden, Ambassador Philip Kosnett, US Army, and people of America
for this important donation.
The
armoured vehicle M1117 ASV (Armoured Security Vehicle) have been presented in a
ceremony which was attended by the Supreme Commander of Kosovo Army and President,
Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Congratulating
members of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), Osmani said tat she hopes Kosovo
will soon be equipped with helicopters needed to increase capacities of the
newly formed army. “I hope next phase will involve much needed helicopters, which
would serve saving people’s lives in emergency cases and natural disasters,”
Osmani said.
The Prime
Minister Albin Kurti in his speech said that Kosovo remains committed to
working with the allies and contribute to sustainable peace and regional and
global security. He said that Kosovo is sheltering Afghan refugees fleeing the
Taliban who took over the country, has joined the US Army in a peacekeeping mission
in the Middle East and has supported countries of the region facing natural
disasters, such was an earthquake in Albania last year.
The M1117
Guardian is an internal security vehicle developed in the late 1990s for
service with the U.S. Military Police. The first prototypes appeared in February
1997 and serial production commenced between 1999 and early 2000. Its is armed
with an Mk 19 grenade launcher, a M2HB Browning machine gun and an M240H medium
