The Managing Board of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation, EUROPOL, approved an agreement with the law enforcement agencies of Kosovo, according to Croatia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs – a country currently holding the EU presidency.

The new agreement once is signed by chief director of Europol and Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, will step up cooperation of this European agency with the Kosovo Police, Customs, and Tax Administration. A press statement of Croatia’s ministry of Interior says that Kosovo with the new agreement will create a central office on cooperation with the EUROPOL and will be given a chance to send a Liaison officer at the EUROPOL’s headquarters at the Hague. This agreement grants Kosovo a new and more active form of cooperation with all EU countries, according to the statement. Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia are among countries which are not EU members but have their liaison officers in EUROPOL.

Since 2010 Kosovo has made many efforts to join the international police agency, Interpol, but was prevented by Serbia, who campaigned against Kosovo’s bid. After two failed attempts Kosovo Government last year decided to withdraw its membership bid due to lack of support from Interpol member countries. /GazetaExpress/
