Kosovo President urges parties to respect Constitutional Court ruling

Kosovo president Hashim Thaci welcomed a Constitutional Court’s ruling approving his decree paving the way on formation of new Government. The President urged parties to respect the ruling enabling Avdullah Hoti of the LDK to form new cabinet.

“I was careful following each constitutional step and this was confirmed last night with the unanimous decision of the Constitutional Court judges confirming the Parliament is the highest political body in the country,” Thaci said during a press conference on Friday. The President called on swift formation of an “efficient and functional government.”

“I call on institutional leaders to work together to have a regular and democratic transition of powers. I also urge civil society and media to contribute to this transition,” Thaci said.

According to Thaci Kosovo should focus on overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and work on economic recovery. He also urged the European Union to liberalise visas for Kosovo citizens. “Let’s continue reforms in judiciary and economy, and I call on the EU to take a decision on visa liberalisation as soon as possible, and for Kosovo to become part of NATO and the EU,” Thaci stated. /GazetaExpress/
