Kosovo PM Kurti meets US envoy Escobar

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti accompanied by Foreign Minister Donika Gervalla met Friday with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs and Special Representative to the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar on the sidelines of the Delphi Economic Forum, Gazeta Express reports.

During the meeting Kurti mentioned threats to security that might bring Russian aggression in the Western Balkan and urged for more attention on security situation in the region, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release.

“During the meeting it was discussed on developments In Europe and Western Balkans and importance of peace and stability in the region, following Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine, It was discussed on Russian influence and dangers of inciting of potential conflicts in the Western Balkan countries. Because of these developments, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for increased attention for security in the region and investments in Kosovo,” according to the press release.  

Kurti thanked the US for supporting the Republic of Kosovo, as well as sustainable peace, long-term stability, and regional security. He highlighted Kosovo’s alignment with the democratic world in sanctioning Russia, and readiness of the Kosovo Government to host 5,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Kurti reiterated the necessity of full integration of the Western Balkans into NATO and the European Union, for guaranteeing peace and stability in the region and the continent of Europe. Escobar confirmed US support for Kosovo, its sovereignty and territorial integrity and Kosovo’s aspirations towards European and Euro-Atlantic integrations. /GazetaExpress/
