Kosovo PM designate Kurti announces genocide lawsuit against Serbia

Kosovo prime minister designate, Albin Kurti, said his Government would draft a Law on war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity, Gazeta Express reports.

Addressing the Parliament on Monday, the Vetevendosje leader said that among priorities of his new government is also establishing an institute on war crimes. Presenting program before the Parliament, Kurti said that his cabinet will prepare a lawsuit against Serbia at the International Court of Justice on crimes committed in Kosovo.

Kurti’s message comes ahead of announced on relaunch of dialogue with Belgrade as part of efforts to normalize relations between the two countries. “Our government will try crimes, we will enable conviction of those responsible on war crimes, and we will approve the Law on war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity and aggression. We will establish also the Institute on War Crimes which would support the State Prosecution in documenting war crimes, based on the local and international laws and will prepare a lawsuit against Serbia before the International Court of Justice on crimes committed in Kosovo,” Kurti said presenting his Government program

The Parliament members are expected to endorse the new government and its program today after Kurti’s party Vetevendosje agreed on Sunday to form a new coalition government with the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) headed by Isa Mustafa nearly four months after the country held snap elections following resignation of Ramush Haradinaj as prime minister in July 2019. /GazetaExress/
