Kosovo opposition MPs keep blocking economic recovery law
Kosovo’s Parliament Committee on Budget and Transfers
failed Wednesday to approve the Draft Law on Economic Recovery due to lack of
quorum after opposition MPs are against the Government sponsored law aimed at
recovering economy hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic.
Parliament of Kosovo passed last month in the first reading the draft law on
economic recovery on its seventh attempt. The Parliamentary procedures require another
round of voting through relevant Committees before returning to the Parliament
for the final approval.
opposition parties of Vetevendosje and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) are
opposing the Draft Law which among other measures foresees withdrawal of ten
percent of the pension savings to help ease the impact that pandemic had in country’s
economy. The opposition considers that the Government’s measures are inadequate
to face the economic crisis and have opposed the proposal to withdraw the
pension savings. The ruling parties are facing with lack of support in the
Parliament to pass the Government sponsored law. /GazetaExpress/
