Almost 12 years after country’s independence Kosovo has finally left the SMM control block – Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, and formed the Kosovo-Albania (AK) control block.

In April 2020, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, ENTSO-E and Kosovo signed an agreemetn paving the way for Kosovo to become an independent regulatory zone for electricity. In December 2019, KOSTT and Albania’s TSO OST signed an agreement on establishing a regulatory block for the Kosovo-Albania energy system.

Kosovo prime minister, Avdullah Hoti, who on Monday visited KOSTT confirmed that as of today the electricity transmission system operator has left the SMM control block coordinated by Serbia’s TSO EMS and joined Kosovo-Albania control block. He said that Kosovo’s independence in electricity is a huge success for the country.

He said the Government of Kosovo strongly supports the energy sector adding that energy stability is a precondition for a sustainable economic development of Kosovo, increase of foreign investments and welfare of citizens. /GazetaExpress/
