Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora issued a statement on Thursday advising citizens to avoid travelling through Serbia.
The reaction of Kosovo authorities came after Serbia indicted a Kosovo man of war crimes. Nezir Mehmetaj was arrested by Serbian border authorities on 3 January 2020 while entering through the border crossings of Merdare and is being kept in detenetion, suspected of committing war crimes against civilian population.
Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Meliza Haradinaj-Stublla has reacted after the confirmation of the indictment stating that Mehmetaj and asked his immediate release. Haradinaj-Stublla said that Serbia is violating international laws by arresting Kosovo citizens without grounds, based solely on their ethnicity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on Thursday a travel advisory, warning citizens to be careful when traveling through Serbia due to “recent irresponsible behaviour of Serbian institutions towards Kosovo citizens,” referring to the arrest and indictment against Mehmetaj. /GazetaExpress/
