The Association of the Kosovo Liberation
Army (KLA) Veterans has announced a protest on 9 July in Pristina to oppose the
indictments filed by the Hague Based prosecutors against former leaders of the
The KLA Veterans in a statement said that
after a meeting of the veterans and the Association of former Political Prisoners
they have decided to organise a nation-wide protest on 9 July in the capital,
Pristina, Gazeta Express reports. “The nation-wide protest will be held in Pristina
on 9 July under the motto: Defending the Liberation War,” it is written in the statement.
Further the Association of KLA Veterans
asked the Parliament of Kosovo to amend the Law on Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
The Hague-based Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in a press release issued last
week announced filing of an indictment against former political representative
of the KLA and current president of Kosovo Hashim Thaci and the leader of the
PDK, Kadri Veseli. The KLA Veterans say filing of the indictment was done to
obstruct the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia. Filing of the
indictment led to cancellation of a meeting between Kosovo and Serbia delegation
at the White House last week, mediated by the US special envoy on dialogue,
Richard Grenell. Thaci cancelled his trip to Washington and returned to Kosovo
after the Hague prosecutors indictment. The KLA veterans say that they will ask
the Parliament of Kosovo to amend the Law on Specialist Chambers insisting that
the Hague based court should deal also with Serbian crimes committed in Kosovo.
