Ajshe Veseli, the mother of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commander end ex-PDK leader Kadri Veseli, has died at the age of 93. The family said in a statement that the funeral service will be held today at the village Broboniq of Mitrovica South.

Kadri Veseli is in the Kosovo Specialist Chambers detention in the Hague facing war crime charges for his role in KLA during 1998-1999 Kosovo war. Gazeta Express asked the Kosovo Specialist Chambers whether Veseli will be allowed to attened the funeral service of his mother. Spokesperson of the KSC, Anbgela Griep said the legal framework of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers allows detained persons to make requests to the competent Panel when there are compelling humanitarian grounds, and the Panel will decide on such requests. The KSC spokesperson provided no additional information on whether Kadri veseli has failed any request to attend the funeral of his late mother. “All public documents, including submissions from the Defense and decisions by the Judges are published on the KSC website,” she said when asked by Gazeta Express whether Veseli has filed a request with the competent panel.

In May 2021, Kadri Veseli was granted permission by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers to visit his father at the regional hospital in Mitrovica South after he suffered as troke. He passed away in July 2022.

Kadri Veseli and three other senior KLA commanders, Hashim Thaci, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi are being held in detention since November 2020 facing war crime charges. The indictment, as confirmed by the KSC, states that the war crimes of illegal or arbitrary arrest and detention, cruel treatment, torture, and murder, and the crimes against humanity of imprisonment, other inhumane acts, torture, murder, enforced disappearance of persons, and persecution were committed from at least March 1998 through September 1999.  /GazetaExpress/
