Hague Prosecutors summon Kosovo MP for questioning

Haxhi Shala, former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army and current MP in Parliament, is the latest politician to be summoned for questioning by the Hague based prosecutors suspected of committing war crimes.

Shala, who is member of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), said Monday that he was summoned by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office for questioning on 8 September. Further he said the summons is an attempt “to stain” the KLA war values, and reminded the he received the summons the day he and his former brothers in arms were commemorating 22th anniversary of those  fallen in an important battle when Shala was commander.

“Tendencies to stain the KLA’s war and values are unacceptable. Nevertheless, I will answer the summons, because I know the war was just and about liberation,” Shala wrote on Facebook.

Representatives of the KLA veterans have stated that around 200 ex-KLA members have been questioned by the Hague prosecutors either as suspects or witnesses. The SPO has already filed first indictments with the Kosovo Specialist Chambers at the Hague. In June. the SPO announced filing of an indictment against president Hashim Thaci, and PDK leader Kadri Veseli, who held the most senior positions within the KLA in 1998-1999 war with Serbia. A pre-trial judge is yet to decide on whether to confirm or dismiss the indictments. /GazetaExpress/
