Hague Prosecutors summon Kosovo journalist Avni Spahiu
Journalist Avni Spahiu has been summoned by the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) for questioning. Spahiu told Gazeta Express that he was summoned for questioning as a witness by the Hague-based prosecutors on his role as editor-in-chief of the only Albanian newspaper Bujku, published during 90s in Kosovo.
Spahiu who served also as Kosovo’s Ambassador to Turkey told Gazeta Express that he received the summons on Tuesday by the Specialist Prosecutor’ Office at the Hague. He also confirmed that he will be questioned on his role as editor-in-chief of the daily Bujku. Spahiu confirmed that he will give his testimony by the end of February. “I will be questioned at the Hague, I will go there on 26 February,” Spahiu said.
Avni Spahiu during his career served as political advisor to former Kosovo president, Ibrahim Rugova, who after Kosovo got deprived of its autonomy by Serbia in 1989 lead the peaceful resistance against Serbia until 1998 when the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) appeared.
In less than one month, the SPO has
summoned 13 former KLA members for questioning at the Hague. Hysni Gucati, who
leads the Association of the KLA Veterans said that 260 people have been
summoned for questioning by the SPO, established to investigate and prosecute
alleged crimes committed by the KLA during and after the war in Kosovo. /GazetaExpress/
