European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos used her visit to Kosovo to call on the political spectrum to break out of the institutional deadlock and form stable institutions so that the country can move towards the EU.
"My clear call on this visit is for all political actors to find a way to restore institutional stability," Kos said in a joint press conference with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Kos came to Kosovo for the first time since taking office in 2024. She had planned to come several times, but due to political developments in the country, she had postponed the visit.
But, again, Kos came at a time when the country does not have an Assembly, while the Government and the Presidency are in office. Meanwhile, extraordinary elections will be held in June.
Kos said that many reforms have stalled due to the repeat elections and Kosovo must catch up after a lost year in 2025.
"It is important that after the new Assembly is formed, political leaders in Kosovo unite and establish all institutions, including the election of a new president through compromise, and end this long institutional stalemate," she said.
Kos said at the conference that there is no security in Europe without Kosovo and said that the country has a European perspective, but that it must be successful in implementing reforms and in the dialogue with Serbia. /Express/
