Alush Gashi, former Minister of Health and one of the founders of LDK, has died. The announcement was made by his family via Facebook.
"Dear friends,
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Alush Gashi.
Family, relatives and friends will always remember him with love, respect and gratitude for the life, work and memories he left behind.
"You will be notified of the details of the ceremony in due course," his son Anil Gashi wrote.

Gashi played an important role in the struggle of the Kosovo Albanians for self-determination. In 1989, as dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Pristina, he was part of the founding of the Democratic League of Kosovo. He was a member of the LDK and participated in the negotiations to avoid war. He also served as a senior advisor and close associate of Ibrahim Rugova, and was also the LDK's secretary for foreign relations. He has also been politically active after the war in Kosovo. In the 2007 elections, Gashi was among the most voted representatives in the Kosovo parliament. Gashi is a signatory of the declaration of independence, and between November 2007 and April 2010 he held the post of Minister of Health. Gashi practices the profession of professor of anatomy, and in 2019 was elected a member of the general council of the LDK. After a several-year break from public office, in June 2020, Gashi was elected political advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Avdullah Hoti. Gashi's long experience in foreign policy makes him considered a person with strong international ties, especially with the United States.
In February 2021, with the election of Lumir Abdixhiku as the president of the LDK, Prof. Dr. Alush Gashi was re-elected for another term as a member of the LDK General Council. He is the oldest member of the LDK General Council, a party he has been a member of since its founding. In June 2021, Prof. Dr. Gashi founded the Institute of Foreign Relations, where he holds the position of chairman of the board. The Institute of Foreign Relations is the first institution of its kind, which aims to foster an intensive debate on Kosovo's foreign policy. The Zëri newspaper reported that in November 2021, Prof. Dr. Gashi launched the institute by holding the first meeting with diplomats from South-Eastern Europe where they exchanged views on how Kosovo can unlock its membership at the multilateral level and diplomatic recognition.
