Victim Protection Office: Number of domestic violence cases is increasing

The Office for Victim Protection and Assistance (OPVA) has announced that during the one-week working period, from 08.05.2026 to 15.05.2026, victim advocates at the Kosovo level have handled a total of 43 new cases.

According to official data, the majority of cases are related to domestic violence, while other cases of various criminal natures have also been identified.

Of the 43 cases handled, 40 are cases of domestic violence, 2 cases of attempted murder, and 1 case of violation of a protection order.

Within the framework of the work of the competent institutions, 7 requests for Protection Order (KUM) and 10 requests for Emergency Protection Order (KUME) were filed in court. Also, 2 requests for termination of the protection order and 1 request for its amendment were registered, as well as 2 rejected decisions.

During this period, 2 requests for compensation from the victims' fund, 6 compilations of various submissions, as well as 56 court hearings and 15 hearings at the prosecutor's office were also recorded.

In terms of legal assistance, 49 legal advices were provided, while 5 convictions, 2 rejections and 1 acquittal were registered.

Also, 3 cases were represented to the police and 5 cases were referred to the Center for Social Work (CSW).
