US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington's decision to gradually move US troops out of Europe is not a punishment for allies for their lack of support in the US war with Iran.
He stated that the US has global military obligations and the distribution of forces is constantly reviewed, therefore changes in troop deployment are "routine process" and not a punitive action.
"This is not a punitive action, it's something that's been happening continuously," Rubio told reporters on the eve of the NATO summit in Sweden.
However, he added that President Donald Trump's "disappointment" with allies over the lack of involvement in the war with Iran should be addressed, but not at that specific meeting, DW writes.
