Barcelona president-elect Joan Laporta has downplayed expectations for big spending in the transfer market this summer.

The Blaugranas have hinted that this summer they will return to the so-called "1:1" rule for the first time in three years, however Laporta has stressed that this does not mean that a big transfer window is coming.

Over the last two seasons, Barcelona have recorded a net profit of 10 million euros in the transfer market, with Joan García and Dani Olmo being the main reinforcements that have arrived.

With Robert Lewandowski's departure now confirmed, the Catalan club is expected to bring in a quality striker to replace him.

Speaking ahead of the Koeman Cup charity golf event, Laporta explained that the club will strictly follow sporting director Deco's plans.

"Being within the 1:1 rule is positive, but that doesn't mean we're going to go crazy or spend out of control. We're going to implement everything Deco says. He's shown he does things well and we have to let him work," he told "MD".

“[The aim will be] to reinforce the specific positions that Deco and Flick have studied.”

One of the names that has been frequently linked with Barcelona since Laporta's return to the presidency is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Laporta seems to have hinted that it's not about star-studded reunions just for show.

"It's not about transfers for show. The fans understand that we have a very strong team," he said when asked about the possibility of bringing Haaland to Barcelona.

Barcelona have also been closely linked with Atletico Madrid striker Julián Álvarez.

"We don't exclude anyone, because Barça can pursue all the best players. We are the ones who set the conditions."

One of the main obstacles to this transfer seems to be the price.

Atlético could secure a better offer for Álvarez from Paris Saint-Germain and would prefer to sell him outside of Spain if he leaves. Barcelona appear to be banking on Álvarez's desire to move, should the move happen./Express newspaper/
