Inter are monitoring Atalanta winger Marco Palestra as a potential successor to Denzel Dumfries, with the Dutchman's future expected to depend on both his performances at the World Cup and a €25m release clause that only activates for a month in July.

According to "Gazzetta dello Sport", Dumfries has returned to his best form at a crucial moment, giving decisive performances in both the Scudetto race and the Coppa Italia final against Lazio.

The Dutch defender was out of action from mid-November to mid-February due to an ankle injury, but since returning has once again become one of the undisputed starters for Cristian Chivu.

Despite his importance to the team, Dumfries' future is not entirely certain.

His contract with Inter runs until 2028 and the club considers him a key player, but the release clause that is activated every summer has created uncertainty.

According to reports, clubs like Liverpool have shown interest, while last year there were no concrete moves despite speculation about Barcelona.

Dumfries will take part in the World Cup with the Netherlands, where they will face Japan, Sweden and Tunisia in the group stage, with the "Tulips" considered favourites to progress.

While he is on tour, the transfer market will continue to move around him.

If he leaves, Inter have identified Marco Palestra – currently on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta – as their main target for the right-back.

Luis Henrique is also linked with a move away, while Matteo Darmian is expected to leave in June after a successful spell with the club.

Palestra's profile is seen as the ideal solution due to his dynamism and flexibility to replace Dumfries in the future./Express newspaper/
