Stephan El Shaarawy has confirmed he will leave Roma when his contract expires on June 30, ending a decade-long association with the Giallorossi that has made him one of the most beloved figures in the club's recent history.
The winger made his departure official with two games left until the end of the season – the derby against Lazio and the final challenge against Verona – before leaving the Italian capital as a free agent.
El Shaarawy originally joined Roma in January 2016 after a spell at Monaco, having previously emerged as one of Serie A's most promising talents at Milan.
He left for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua in the summer of 2019, but returned to Roma in January 2021 and has remained an important part of the team ever since.
In his two spells at Roma, the Italian international of Egyptian origin played 346 games for the club, contributing 65 goals and 50 assists.
The highlight of his career at the Stadio Olimpico came in the 2021/22 season, when Roma won the Conference League under José Mourinho, the club's first European trophy in 61 years.
His departure had long been rumored.
