Fears of a return to conflict in the Middle East are growing, as US President Donald Trump is expected to hold an emergency meeting with his national security team on Tuesday on the situation with Iran.
According to American media, the meeting will also discuss possible military scenarios against Iran, amid rising tensions in the region.
Trump has increased pressure on Tehran over the weekend, warning that "time is running out" for Iran and that the country must act quickly on a deal.
The US president stated that if Iran does not present a better proposal for negotiations, it could face "much harsher blows".
At the center of the conflict remains the Iranian nuclear program and US suspicions of developing nuclear weapons.
On Sunday, Trump held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about developments in Iran. The day before, he had also gathered his national security team at his golf club in Virginia.
The meeting was attended by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and other senior American officials.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Qatar are stepping up diplomatic efforts to mediate between the US and Iran, in an attempt to avoid a return to war.
The situation became more tense after a drone attack on the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates. Authorities said three drones entered the country's airspace, where two were shot down by air defenses, while another hit an electrical generator near the plant.
The Emirates did not directly accuse Iran, but senior officials said the attack constituted a "dangerous escalation" and a serious threat to security in the region. /Panorama
