Bolton responds to Gazeta Express question about 2 September meeting at the White House
National Security Adviser to US President Donald Trump, John Bolton, in a
conversation with the director of the National Press Clubanswered
the question of Gazeta Expressabout the 2 September meeting
between Kosovo and Serbia that is to be held at the White House.
Express was interested in knowing what Bolton’s expectations are from that meeting
and whether he expects the parties to reach a final agreement in Washington,
which would be a combination of economic and political issues.
“I think it will be a great campaign event for President Trump. I hope it helps in negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia. I think it is very much in the interest of the US to resolve each of the remaining Balkan area disputes,” he said. “I think that the instability caused by not being able to regularize the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia just gives Russia possibility to work into and increase that instability. There was a time some years ago when people were optimistic that leaders of Kosovo and Serbia had worked out something at least in general terms. That is falling away a little bit. But is it in the interest of the US, whether in public or behind the scenes to work to see if we can have those two countries reach an agreement? I think it very much is. That is what the administration is doing. /GazetaExpress/
