EU urges Kosovo parties to respect and implement Constitutional Court’s decision

The European Union called on all Kosovo political actors to respect the Constitutional Court’s decision on the matter of the President Hashim Thaci’s decree on the appointment of candidate for the formation of the new government.

European Commission’s spokesperson, Ana Pisonero, told Gazeta Express that they took note of the Constitutional Court’s ruling that the President’s decree on appointment of a candidate for prime minister. Pisonero said the EU calls on Kosovo political actors to respect the decision and take necessary steps to implement it.

“We call on all Kosovo political actors to respect the Court’s decision and take the necessary steps to implement it.  This is about respecting a key principle of rule of law,” Pisonero told Gazeta Express.

The Court late on Thursday ruled in favour of President Thaci’s decree on nominating Avdullah Hoti of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) to form new government. The ruling paves the way to form new government after successful motion of no confidence in Albin  Kurti’s Government on 25 March 2020. The LDK has already entered  a coalition agreement with Ramush Haradinaj’s party – AAK and Fatmir Limaj’s Nisma to create new majority in Parliament. /GazetaExpress/
