Baton Haxhiu says he was misunderstood; clarifies his statements about war crimes amnesty

Journalist Baton Haxhiu said that his statement on the “crime amnesty” was deliberately taken out of context to discredit him. “During the debate, a cacophony was created, and I was not able to explain what I meant by that amnesty,” he said.

Haxhiu says that even international law does not allow amnesty for war crimes. He also said that he has lost 11 family members during the war. “I have documented every field of Serbian crimes with my name and the photos of Alban Bujari,” he said. Haxhiu says he is against the Kosovo Specialist Chambers because, according to him, any punishment of KLA leaders would be considered as a punishment of the KLA and not individuals. Haxhiu apologized to all those that were concerned with that statement. “I apologize to all those who took the amnesty as an amnesty for war crimes,” he said.

Baton Haxhiu, who is known for his close relations with Kosovo president Hashim Thaci, in an interview with T7 broadcaster last week said a potential agreement between Kosovo and Serbia should include abolishing of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers dealing with alleged crimes committed by Kosovo  Liberation Army, an amnesty for war crimes. His statement triggered reaction of political parties and civil society, as well as association and family members of the war victims. /GazetaExpress/
