Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani wrote a letter to US President Joe Biden asking him help Kosovo join NATO, Gazeta Express reports.
In her letter, Osmani is key factor promoting regional stability and mentioned achievements of the state in respecting democracy, stating that Kosovo has transformed from a warn-torn society into a country that respects democracy.
Osmani urges Biden that under the new circumstances created in Europe following Russia’s invasion in Ukraine has made imperative for Kosovo to join NATO and other international organisations.
“Euro-Atlantic integration has always been our goal, but today – in the light of the unprecedented evens on the European continent – it is our key national security priority. Europe is facing the darkest and most dangerous times since the end of the Cold War. As we share the joint goal of protecting and promoting global security, Kosovo’s membership in NATO has become an imperative. Arguments countering Kosovo’s NATO membership disregard the security imperatives in the Western Balkans and do not serve the interest of the democratic free world, which is under increasing siege by authoritarian tendencies and their aggressive policies,” Osmani wrote in her letter.
Osmani said that Kosovo is the most pro-American and pro-NATO country in the world. “Nonetheless, to this day, Kosovo remains excluded from the NATO enlargement process, arrangements, and programs, such as the Partnership for Peace (PfP) and yet is to become a full member of the Adriatic Charter (A5),” Osmani said.
“We express our faith and expectations that the US will use its leadership and influence to actively support and advance the complex process of NATO membership for Kosovo starting with the PfP program and full membership to the Adriatic Charter,” President Osmani stated. The President of Kosovo in the end of her letter said that she looks forward to meeting with US President Biden in person to discuss this issue. /GazetaExpress/
