The organization of the Pride Parade this year in Kosovo’s capital Pristina will be different and will be reduced to one day of activity due to COVID-19 pandemic, organisers have announced.
Centre for Social Group Development (CSGD), Centre for Equality and Liberty (CEL), and Youth Initiative for Human Rights Kosovo (YIHR), in a joint press release said that despite the challenges and the situation created due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pride Parade will be held under the slogan “I DO” and will be organised with vehicles on the streets of Pristina.
“The aim is to address challenges, demands and to show the presence of LGBTI people in Kosovo. In order to respect the measures of the Government of Kosovo in preventing the spread of the pandemic, the number of vehicles and participants will be limited,” according to a statement.
According to NGO’s organising the Pride Parade is a moment that seeks to draw the attention of the public, decision makers, central and local authorities, media and opinion leaders to the injustices and challenges faced by LGBTI people, in the hope of bringing social, economic and political justice. “The Pride Parade unites LGBTI people and supporters to demand equal rights. This year we are seeking justice in the decisions for civil code regarding the exclusion of same-sex marriage, a right guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo,” according to the press release. /GazetaExpress/
