Kosovo prime minister Avdullah Hoti said authorities will reimplement stricter coronavirus measures as the country saw surge of new infections and deaths over the last few days.

Prime Minister Hoti convened Sunday Kosovo National Council to discuss the new measures. After the meeting he told media that members of the Council agreed to implement new measures aimed at preventing spread of coronavirus. He said that declaring state of emergency is one of the options if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to raise.

Hoti told journalists the new measures will be stricter and there will be no tolerance for those who do not respect the new restrictions. “The measures on preventing spread of COVID-19 are simple: masks, social distance, hygiene,” he said. According to Hoti the new measures will enter into force after a Government meeting which will be held later today.

Stricter measures are introduced after surge of new COVID-19 cases. Over the last three days 615 new cases were tested positive with the virus, bringing country’s total to 4.715. The number of COVID-19 deaths has topped 100 since the first case was confirmed in March.

The University Clinical Centre of Kosovo announced on Sunday that they are treating 301 patients with coronavirus. Out of them 190 are in the main university clinical center whereas 11 others in the regional hospitals. /GazetaExpress/
