Australia trades "constructively" with China, also relying on various partnerships, says the ambassador.

As US President Donald Trump travels to Beijing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, middle powers are wondering how they will get involved in what comes next. Australian Ambassador to the EU Angus Campbell speaks to Euronews about the weight of those watching.

Australia's ambassador to the EU and NATO, Angus Campbell, told Europe Today that Australia has a "very important and constructive trading relationship with China", but its success relies on diverse partnerships, Euronews writes.

"Australia trades with North America, with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), with South Asia, with North Asia and with Europe," he said.

"We are an island continent that depends on global trade, on trade rules, and free trade agreements matter because they enable prosperity for all."
