Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accused opposition parties of "un-state" and "anti-institutional" behavior after refusing to participate in the session called by the Vetëvendosje Movement for President.

"The opposition in Kosovo has no other goal than to block, as long as the behavior of this opposition is non-state and anti-institutional. It is interested in only one thing: blocking our government, which in this mandate has a historic result. In these circumstances, this entire opposition blockade through the boycott of plenary sessions cannot be called anything other than non-recognition of the election results and the will clearly expressed on December 28."

Kurti said that the opposition has another goal.

"The evidence of the blockade is yet another fact that to oppose the economic package for citizens, namely the budget review, namely the fight against inflation 2.0, everyone was mobilized, including the Serbian List, while they are not even coming to the hall for the president. With the deep conviction that Kosovo does not need the blockades of those past 10 months, with the full belief that Kosovo does not need new elections since we have held enough in 2025 and the result has been clear, the country will lose at least over 10 million euros just for organizing the elections, not to mention tens of millions more that are lost because we cannot cooperate with the international community as we want since we will not have a functional Assembly."

Kurti claimed that they have made every effort to prevent the country from going to "repeated and unnecessary elections."

"We tried for a consensual candidate, but it was impossible. We proposed those rejections."

Kurti's statement comes after opposition parties accused him of a coup and a constitutional violation after starting the session to elect the president without the necessary quorum as provided for by the Constitution. /Express/
