Although with different historical and political contexts, Taiwan and Kosovo have one thing in common. Both countries share their borders with neighboring states that have territorial claims and which are continuously considered a security threat. However, despite constant pressure from neighbors such as China and Serbia, both countries have continued to build up their economic and defense capacities, albeit at different levels, writes Gazeta Express.

But what is the relationship between the two countries and how can Taiwan-Kosovo cooperation be further advanced?

Taiwan's Deputy Foreign Minister, François Chihchung, told Gazeta Express that the Taiwanese state is very interested in advancing economic cooperation with Kosovo, as one of the best ways. This is because, according to him, establishing diplomatic relations is not possible at the moment.

"We are trying to find out how we can work more in terms of economic cooperation. Economic cooperation is always the best way. With Kosovo, we are thinking about working more with you and I don't think that diplomatic recognition is possible at the moment," Chihchung told Express.

He said that Taiwan needs to understand Kosovo's economic situation, so that the Taiwanese private sector can invest in Kosovo.

"Economic cooperation remains a strong opportunity and a strong political will on the part of Taiwan. With Kosovo, we need to have more exchange. We need to understand your economic situation, you deserve for the private sector to go to Kosovo for investments and I think people from Taiwan will go to Kosovo to invest," he said.

Taiwan is one of the countries where Kosovars can travel without visas. From December 1, 2024, Taiwan had decided to abolish the visa regime, recognizing the Kosovar passport. /GazetaExpress/
