Former Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj has stated that a concrete possibility for recognition of Kosovo by Greece was directly linked to the American gas project in 2021, which according to him was rejected by the government.
"Energy security today is before foreign policy, it is equal to the defense of Kosovo and we under the leadership of Ms. Osmani and Mr. Kurti, what we have said no once to the contract we had with Global Contour for New Kosovo in 2020, now in 2021 we have said "no" to the American gas project, which project also had the recognition of Kosovo by Greece on the table. For the 2021 gas project to be signed by Kosovo as a result of this would also be the Greek recognition itself, where the file was on the table," Hoxhaj said in Klan Kosova.
According to him, the gas project was not only energy-related, but also political, as at the same time the file for the recognition of Kosovo by Greece was also on the table.
Hoxhaj emphasized that the failure to sign this project has lost concrete diplomatic momentum, directly linking energy development to the advancement of international recognition.
