Political parties of Vetevendosje and Democratic League of Kosovo (LKD) who in previous legislature were in opposition, continued Friday efforts to reach a pre-election coalition as the deadline for registering of coalitions expires tonight at midnight. But despite efforts, a potential coalition between these two parties to form a major coalition block is likely to fail as LDK chairman, Isa Mustafa, turned down the offer of Vetevendosje leader, Albin Kurti, who made a new proposal on who should lead the future Government which is the only disagreeing point for reaching the deal.
Albin Kurti in his offer proposed the LDK candidate for prime minister, Vjosa Osmani, to lead the joint election roll and proposed their candidate be ranked as second. According to Kurti the candidate who wins the most votes in this joint election list would be nominated for prime minister if the coalition wins the election, Gazeta Express reports.
The LDK chairman Isa Mustafa answering Kurti’s offer reiterated that the only candidate for prime minister for LDK is Vjosa Osmani, indicating that the LDK will not accept Vetevendosje’s offer. According to Mustafa entering election without a candidate proposed for prime minister and under a joint election role creates ambiguities. The LDK Steering Committee held an urgent meeting on Friday afternoon after the Vetevnedosje’s offer. Vjosa Osmani, LDK’s candidate for prime minister, addressing media after the meeting aid that what Vetevendosje proposed triggers a competition within the two parties adding that the real competition is against other parties which in previous legislature were in ruling coalition. “We call on Vetevendosje for a sincere cooperation,” Osmani stated.
