Over 2000 People gathered on Thursday in Pristina’s main square and unveiled a giant banner reading “We Want Election.” The gathering dubbed “Protest Rehearsal Number 2” was organised by the Vetevendosje activists.
The crowd got electrified when the Vetevendosje leader and caretaker prime minister Albin Kurti appeared in one of the balconies of the Government building to greet the crowd who called his name and applauded his appearance. After Kurti’s greeting the organisers called off the “rehearsal protest.”
Organisers painted red dots in Pristina’s main square and called on citizens to gather for a rehearsal protest and announced an actual protest if the Constitutional Court rules in favour of Hashim Thaci’s decree who nominated Avdullah Hoti of LDK to form new Government. The Vetevendosje challenged Thaci’s decree at the Constitutional Court saying the President’s move was unconstitutional. Kurti is insisting the President announce early elections after his Government was ousted in a no-confidence vote on 25 March triggered by former coalition partner – the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). The Constitution is ambiguous on deadlines of forming new Government after a successful motion of no-confidence by the Parliament. The Court has imposed an interim measure on President’s decree until 29 May pending a final decision. Media have reported on Thursday that a Court ruling is expected today as judges have gathered on Thursday afternoon. /GazetaExpress/
