Osmani writes to Kosovo Specialist Chambers President

Parliament Speaker Vjosa Osmani sent a letter to the President of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, Ekaterina Trendafilova, referring the Amendment of President Hashim Thaci regarding the mandate of the Hague based court.

In the letter that Koha news portal has published Osmani asks Trendafilova that the proposed amendment be forwarded to the Specialist Chambers of the Constitutional Court for prior assessment.

Osmani wrote, “I hereby convey to you a proposed amendment to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, which relates to the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO), in accordance with Article 144(3) and Article 162(3) of the Constitution of Kosovo.  would be grateful if this proposed amendment will be referred to the Specialist Chambers of the Constitutional Court, in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo and the Law on Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) for prior assessment that the proposed amendment does not diminish any of the rights and freedoms set forth in Chapter II of the Constitution.”

On 24 August president Thaci asked MPs to extend the mandate of the KSC and SPO. Thaci said he had informed the Parliament that the mandate of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office will last until the Council of the European Union decides to end it. /GazetaExpress/
